Tanmanjit Singh Dhesi only Dastar Dhari Sikh MP appointed as Shadow Treasury Minister By the Labour leader Keir Starmer’s

Tan Dhesi, previously shadow rail minister, replaces Abena Oppong-Asare as shadow exchequer secretary in the shadow Treasury team.

About having a new role in the UK government Tan Dhesi MP, said:

Delighted Keir Starmer has asked me to continue in his Frontbench and join our next Chancellor Rachel Reeves, as Shadow Exchequer Secretary to the Treasury.Given that the Conservatives are the biggest risk to our economic prosperity, lots to do to fix the mess the Tories have left our public finances in and build back our economy.Having an Economics A-Level, Maths degree, Masters in Applied Statistics, and having started and run my own business, I hope to bring that relevant knowledge and life experience to my new role. Really looking forward to working within a top talented Treasury team.

It has been a huge honour serving as the Shadow Railways Minister for over 3 years, working alongside Louise Haigh MP and a first rate transport team; seeing at close quarters the fantastic work and passion of rail staff, despite the lack of support and care from this Government.

With The Labour Party in government, we will get our railways back on track - delivering proper investment, a publicly owned network, rolling programme of electrification, improving passenger focus and much more besides. I know Lou, the team and my successor Stephen Morgan MP will deliver for our country.
